Adding Spec Items to Projects

You can import Spec Items into projects, add them to exhibits, and track their usage across bid packages to maintain consistency and keep requirements organized.

1) Add spec items to your project

  1. Open your project.
  2. On the right toolbar, click Spec Items to open the panel.
  3. Click the blue Add new button.
  4. Choose one: Add Manually, Import from CSV, or Import from PDF.

A) Add Manually

  • Add one Spec Item at a time by entering its details.
  • Enter Spec Item Code (required).
  • Enter Description (optional).
  • Click Add.

B) Import from a CSV file

  • Add one Spec Item per row in a CSV file.
  • Select Import from a CSV file.
  • Click Download sample and use it as your template.
  • Upload your file (use Choose file or drag & drop).
    (You can only choose one CSV file at a time)
  • Click Import.

C) Import from a PDF file

  • Add one Spec Item per line in a PDF file.
  • Select Import from a PDF file.
  • Click Download sample and match your PDF to that format.
  • Upload your file (use Choose file or drag & drop).
    (You can only choose one PDF file at a time)
  • Click Import.

2) Find & organize items (Search, Sort, Filter)

  • Search: Use the Search box in Spec Items to find items by Code or Description.
  • Sort: Use Sort by to sort alphabetically by Code or Description.
  • Filter
    • Inclusion: This filter helps you see whether Spec Items are already being used in your project documents.
    • Unspecified inclusion: Shows items that are in the project’s Spec Items list but have not been placed in any document yet.

⚠️ Notes

You’ll see an alert icon when a spec item is used in any document but isn’t yet in the project’s Spec Items list.
