Using Spec Items in Documents

Learn how to insert spec items into your ongoing document to reference standardized codes and descriptions.

A) Insert Using the Document Inline Format

Use this method when you want to type directly into the document.

  1. Open your project.
  2. Select the ongoing document where you want to add spec items.
  3. In the document, type the inline format where you want the spec item to appear: {{specitem code | description}}
  • Code (Required): Enter the spec item code.
  • Description (Optional): Add a short description.
  • Separate code and description with the pipe symbol |.

Example:

{{12345 | Fire Safety Standard}}

  1. As you start typing, the spec item format, a list of existing spec items from the project will appear.
  • You can select an item from the list, or
  • Type manually to add a new spec item.

After inserting:
→ [Spec Item appears with code and description, linked in the document]

B) Insert from the Spec Items List

Use this method when you want to browse or confirm the item first.

  1. Open your project.
  2. Select the ongoing document where you want to add spec items.
  3. Select the line item where you want to insert Spec items.
  4. Place your cursor in the line item where the spec item should appear.
  5. Open Spec Items from the right-hand toolbar.
  6. Select the desired spec item from the list.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Insert → the spec item will be placed at your cursor location.
    • Drag and drop the spec item directly into the document.
  8. The spec item is now added to the document.

⚠️ Notes:

  • Use inline format when drafting quickly.
  • Use the Spec Items list to confirm the correct code.
  • If you type an invalid code, the system will not recognize it as a valid spec item.
